We provide a full family planning service for our patients, e.g. giving advice, supplying contraceptive pills, giving contraceptive injections and implants, and providing emergency contraception. We also supply condoms free of charge.
All of the doctors & nurses in the practice are happy to see & give advice on sexual health matters and contraception. If you have become pregnant we will discuss the options available to you and support you whatever you decide. Anything you discuss with us will be kept totally confidential. Referral for vasectomy or sterilisation is available if appropriate.
Only some of the doctors are able to fit implants. If you are to have one of these fitted we will arrange an appointment with the appropriate person.
For further information on all aspects of contraception visit www.fpa.org.uk
Smear tests are available every 3 years for those aged between 25 and 49 years and every 5 years for those aged 50 to 64 years. Women aged 65+ are only screened if their last 3 tests included an abnormal result. You will receive a letter from the central screening office advising you that your smear test is due. Please make an appointment with the practice nurse ideally in the middle 2 weeks of your menstrual cycle.
For more information on the cervical screening programme please visit the NHS Cervical Screening website. The test is designed to look for any abnormal changes on the cervix before cancer develops, when any problems can be easily treated.
After your smear the results will take 4-6 weeks to come back and the results will always be sent to your home address by the screening programme.
We no longer send an appointment routinely to all new mothers to see the doctor for a post-natal check 6-7 weeks after they have given birth. You are of course most welcome to make an appointment with the GP of your choice to discuss contraception and any other health concerns you may have.
We offer full Child Health Surveillance services.
Health Visitors are Kerry Stevenson and Sue Boffey. We are qualified nurses with extra training in child development and illnesses in children. We work closely with the nursery nurses.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below:
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 8 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
